The Kayak Rentals at Longboat Pass launch from our private kayak launch at the north end of Longboat Key, with easy access to the calm waters of Bishop's Bayou and the wildlife-rich channel between Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key. Exact launch details and directions are provided in your confirmation email after booking.

Yes. Reservations are required for all kayak and paddleboard rentals to ensure proper equipment and staffing. Reservations can be made securely online or by contacting us directly. Bookings may be accepted up to 1 hour before scheduled launch time.

Single kayaks offer independence and allow each paddler to control their own movement. Tandem (double) kayaks provide a shared team experience where two paddlers work together. Tandems are ideal if someone may tire easily, such as a child. Both options are stable, beginner-friendly, and designed for comfort.

Rentals are offered in 4-hour increments, providing plenty of time to explore, relax, and take breaks before returning to shore. Launch times are generally scheduled in the morning but vary by location.

Guest safety and comfort are our top priorities. Coastal weather can be unpredictable, so if storms or strong winds are forecasted, we may delay or cancel shortly before departure. If a tour is canceled at our discretion, guests may reschedule or receive a full refund. We never encourage paddling in unsafe conditions.

Yes. Children are welcome, but younger kids ages 5+ often do best on guided tours. Younger paddlers may ride in a tandem kayak with an adult. Our Coastal Island and Mangrove Tunnels tours are especially popular with families due to their relaxed pace and engaging scenery.

Yes. Our stable sit-on-top kayaks have the following limits: single kayaks hold up to 240 lbs (109 kg), tandem kayaks hold up to 350 lbs (159 kg) combined, and select larger models may hold up to 350 lbs depending on configuration.

All rentals include the vessel, paddle(s), U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest(s), and dry storage containers. Guided tours also include a paddling lesson and professional guide who shares marine ecosystem expertise, historical insights, and paddling tips. Self-guided renters receive a safety orientation and paddling map before launch.

Dress to get wet and bring sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, a hat, and sunglasses. Wear comfortable footwear that can get wet, such as sandals or flip flops. Bring any necessary medications, drinks, and snacks. We provide dry storage for small personal items, but protective cases are recommended for electronics.

You may see Bottlenose Dolphins and Florida Manatees in their natural habitat. We also frequently observe fish, sea horses, sea stars, conchs, crabs, and a wide variety of birds. There are no alligators in the marine habitats we explore, as they inhabit freshwater ecosystems inland.

Not necessarily, but expect occasional splashes. Tipping is rare, and if it does happen, you should be able to get back into your kayak and carry on with your adventure.

Kayak rentals are naturally self-guided and you and your group will be as independent as you choose. If you decide to join one of our guided tours, they often have a mixed group of paddlers, which is usually one of the highlights of the tour. Unlike other companies in the area, Happy Paddler Kayak's tours are purposely limited to small groups to allow for an intimate experience and to increase the chances for wildlife encounters. Happy Paddler Kayak tours have a maximum group size of 10-12 so that each individual is sure to get plenty of attention from their guide and a more immersive experience overall.

Yes! Many casual restaurants and cafés are located near our Longboat Pass launch site, making them perfect for an après-paddle meal. Local favorites include Mar Vista Restaurant, The Shore, Cortez Kitchen, and Longbeach Café.
